The New Games Tournament. Installation.
Los Angeles, CA 2016
The New Games Tournament points to an unknown subculture full of pomp and circumstance. It's members' prestige seemingly resides in athletic performance, but the work alludes to the idea of performance within the arts. Central to The New Games Tournament is the idea that the games themselves are unknown and are illustrated via fleeting ambiguous imagery: paraphernalia, banners and trophies. This mirrors how various cultures (and the prestige garnered within them) are different and ever-evolving. In this way, The New Games Tournament could be considered an arena for physical and mental expression within an alternate version of our past, present or future. (photos by Dayton Castleman)
